Flying Club

Our goal is to provide our Membership with safe and well-equipped aircraft to service all of your general aviation needs.  We don’t require a minimum amount of hours per day when you take our airplanes cross-country and you often don’t have to deal with a dispatcher (you have access to your own set of keys day or night).  We also cap our Membership to ensure that aircraft are available for cross-country trips.  In essence, you get the benefits of being an aircraft owner without the hassle.

Club Members quickly realize that Angel Flight Club offers them a personalized level of service and more importantly, their opinion matters.  Before any significant changes are made, Members are solicited for their inputs through surveys, or e-mail queries before a final decision is made.  We also schedule regular fly-ins and open houses to ensure that Club Members have ample opportunity to meet and mingle with other students and pilots. And finally, because we are a tight-knit Club of aviation enthusiasts, our Members usually know each other, which helps us ensure that our Membership is of the highest caliber!

We encourage prospective Members to compare Angel Flight Club to the other flying alternatives in the South Florida Area. You will quickly see why Angel Flight Club is simply the best.

How do I get checked out in Monarch Sky aircraft and what experience do I need?

A list of minimum experience requirements can be found on the Rental Rates & Minimums page.  The process to get checked out is quite simple.

         Join the Flying Club.

  1. Schedule a checkout with a CFI in the appropriate aircraft.
  2. Fill out an open-book quiz for the aircraft in question.
  3. Fly the checkout with your CFI (usually 30 minutes to 1 hour).

Upon completion, your CFI will submit an aircraft checkout form to Admin.  This, in conjunction with your Quiz, is all that is needed.  After that, you have 24/7 access to the aircraft.

FLIGHT Instructor TRACK

By far, the most common track to a successful career in aviation is by becoming a certified flight instructor (CFI).  Many choose to build hours and experience as a CFI before applying for corporate or regional airline jobs.  Quite a few more decide to make a career out of flight instructing.

A typical flight instructor will make between $25k and $55k a year, depending on their experience level and where they choose to live.  This is not bad considering that you are gaining valuable experience that will make you very marketable to a variety of aviation employers.

If you choose to earn your certificates and ratings through Angel Flight Club, then we typically offer a new CFI employment after their training.  This is good for the school because we know that you are taught right.  It is also good for the student, because they know that, if they apply themselves, they will have a job lined up before they even start their training.  In fact, Angel Flight Club actually hires a vast majority of their alumni after they graduate.

The aggregate cost of the curriculum (Private –> Instrument –> Commercial –> CFI) is approximately:

Prices Starting at $20,105

ADDITIONAL TRAINING: The course total above are derived from FAA regulations and may not represent the actual amount of training required to achieve the specified certificates and/or ratings. The timeline and prices quoted are based on minimum hours. Additional training will be billed at an hourly rate and could extend the graduation date.

Time Building

As a pilot moves through various certificates and ratings, it is often necessary to “time build” to meet certain FAA experience prerequisites.  For example, you need 50 hours of PIC cross country before you can take an Instrument checkride.  How much time building you need depends on the type and extent of flying that you have done.  Those who go through accelerated training often need more time building then ones who spread their training over an extended period of time.

Regardless of why you may need it, Angel Flight Club has set up a competitive program that allows you to build as much time as you need at a fraction of the cost.  We do this by pairing you up with other students in such a way that you both can log the time.  This requires one of you to “be under the hood” as simulated instrument and the other pilot acting as safety observer and PIC.  The upshot is that you both get to split the costs of time building.

If one or both of you wish to become a Flying Club Member, then you can save even more money since you will be able to fly at Tier 1 or Tier 2 rates.  If neither of you are Members, then you will be charged at Tier 3 rates.  You can time build in any Angel Flight Club aircraft in which you are current and checked out. See the Rental Rates and Minimums page for current prices.  Popular time building aircraft include:

  • Cessna 172 M Model (as low as $60/Hr wet per person)
  • Cessna 172 SP With Air conditioning  (as low as $70/Hr wet per person)
  • Cessna 182 H (as low as $90/Hr wet per person)
